about
I wrote this song around November 2013, during a very dark and moody times.
It was supposed to be the first track of my fourth album (for which i wrote around 8 very various tracks, more melodic and more heavy, since it was all 7 strings oriented ha ha), but i eventualy left all of this material behind, and kept listening just for myself.
The "Downward Spiral" EP is my farewell release, therefore i decided to rework this track, since i have gained experience and skills production/arrangements wise.
It's basically the same track as written and recorded 3 years ago (the only thing that i had to re record was the bass track, because it sucked).
I decided to program the drums again, to make it sound much more professionnal and "realistic" and add few things here and there, that i would hear in my 2016's mind ha ha.
First and foremost:
The intro section with a dissonant/dark piano, before the heavy guitars come back along with the piano to create a very "disaster" kind of momentum.
Then the fourth section (let's say it's section...D). there was only clean guitars, but i decided to get rid of them and just use the piano and rhodes for a more jazzy sound, along with a groovy bass line, and the drums stay calm.
Then comes the Main Chorus section, where the glassbells comes in the second section of this chorus.
Then here we are, the Bridge. Before that, i decided to play a drum solo for some reason.
Concerning this whole section, it was inspired by Textures's Surreal State of Enlightenment.
The drums follow the guitars, but it evolves each 8 bars i think. We might not hear it, but there is ghost notes on the snare all along.
The "Interstellar" Pad (as i love to call) added a lot i think during the first 8 bars, it sounds very mysterious.
What i do picture during this section, is myself or someone, waking up in a place...unkown, and everything around is suspicious so you have to be aware of every movement.
After then, there is the Dream Theater section, then the Zappa's Section. I decided to add the Rhodes, which is doubling the guitars, because i felt like it adds something more.
It doesn't follow "exactly" the guitars, so that it's quite different.
Hope you enjoy
